GPA session at the 4th World Water Forum March 18, 2006:
“Management Link for Freshwaters and Coasts - Progress in Local Actions”

This session was convened by GPA, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) - National Ocean Service (NOS) - International Program Office (IPO); Mexico's Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) - DGPAIRS; and the Global Forum on Ocean, Coasts, and Islands (GFOCI).

The objective of this session was to promote the need to integrate watershed and coastal management processes under the UNEP-GPA framework. Key opening notes from the GFOCI, NOAA, UNEP representatives defined the need to integrate watershed and coastal management, and four case studies from India, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, and Panama were presented to illustrate real-case examples of this integration. The cases of Mexico, Trinidad, and Panama are the result of the collaborative agreement between NOAA and the GPA.

Second Intergovernmental Review Meeting of the GPA (IGR-2): 16 - 20 October 2006, Beijing
The Intergovernmental Review Meetings are a forum where Governments and other stakeholders meet to review the status of the implementation of the GPA and decide on action to be taken to strengthen the implementation of the GPA. Building on the success of IGR-1 held in Montreal, Canada in 2001, representatives from governments, inter-governmental organisations, NGOs and other groups are expected to participate in IGR-2 in a highly inter-active and results orientated meeting.
