IPO Activities : Climate Change Adaptation IPO has collaborated with CARICOM and the Caribbean Climate Change Center to support implementation of the Mainstreaming Adaptation to Climate Change (MACC) project. The purpose of the MACC is to create an enabling environment for adaptation to climate change by governments in the English speaking countries of the Caribbean. The project seeks to: (a) enhance the region’s technical knowledge level; (b) create human capital equipped to generate adaptation options; (c) develop adaptation options and no-regrets policies which are endorsed by the participating country governments for phased implementation; and (d) create an integrated agenda and strategy to address climate change which is regionally endorsed. IPO serves as the focal point for NOAA engagement and works with NOAA line offices in implementing actions under the Memorandum of Understanding with CARICOM.
IPO has provided technical advise on the development of the MACC project and is working with AOML to install a Coral Reef Early Warning Station (CREWS) in Discovery Bay, Jamaica.
This program supports global leadership to advance ecosystem management coastal stewardship and NOAA’s Climate Goal, “Understand and predict consequences of climate variability and change on marine ecosystems.”
